A Table Minimum Buys Floor Space and a Bypassed Queue — Never a Discount

Book a table in Lan Kwai Fong or Wan Chai and you're not buying cheaper drinks. You're renting a fixed patch of floor and skipping the rope. Here's the mechanic, the rooms that run it, and how to set it up before the group chat decides without you.

A Table Minimum Buys Floor Space and a Bypassed Queue — Never a Discount

The Chalk Number on the Table Is a Floor, Not a Price

Walk into any Hong Kong club running table service on a Friday and the giveaway is a small card or a number clipped to the table, not a printed price list. That number is the minimum spend attached to that patch of floor for the night — not a cover charge, not a menu, and not a discount. Agreeing to a table minimum means committing to spend at least that amount on drinks over the night; whatever bottles, mixers or rounds the group orders count against it. Order less and staff top the tab up to the minimum at the end. Order more and the group pays the difference. It's a commitment to spend, never a purchase of anything cheaper than ordering at the bar — the per-bottle price at a table is usually the same as, or higher than, the bar rate. The group is paying for the space and the service around it, not a bargain.

What the Minimum Actually Buys

Three things, consistently, across the rooms that run table service here. First, a reserved footprint — a booth, a rail-side table or a section held with the group's name on it, rather than first-come. Second, a bypass of the door queue: a confirmed table walks a party past the line building on the street, which is the part worth the most on a Friday in Lan Kwai Fong or Wan Chai, when the queue itself is the bottleneck. Third, a dedicated host or server who takes the order, keeps mixers and ice coming without a trip to the bar, and settles the tab at the end instead of making the group queue twice. What it doesn't buy: a lower price per drink, an exemption from the venue's door policy for latecomers, or a guaranteed spot inside the reserved section — that's usually first-arrived, first-choice within the group's own footprint.

Which Rooms Run It, and for Whom

Table service is a fixture at the bigger club-format rooms built for a group night rather than a quiet conversation. Boomerang, which has climbed DJ Mag's Top 100 Clubs list six years running to #32 in 2026, and Space Club, also ranked on the 2026 list, both run full club programming built around a dance floor ringed with reservable tables. Smaller lounge-format rooms run a lighter version of the same idea: Cassio, the Wyndham Street wine and cocktail room, has taken table reservations through the 2025–26 season without demanding a club-sized minimum. The read for a birthday, a client dinner that moves into a night out, or a group that doesn't want to stand at the bar all evening: club-format rooms suit a bigger group that wants to dance and expects a real minimum; lounge-format rooms suit a smaller party that wants to sit, talk and drink well without committing to a club night's spend.

Setting One Up Before the Group Chat Decides Without You

Message the venue directly — Instagram DM or WhatsApp is standard across the rooms above — with the date, the headcount and whether the night has an occasion attached; a birthday or a client dinner is worth naming, since it can shape where in the room the table lands. Expect a minimum quoted specifically for that night: it moves with the day of the week, the act on the bill and the size of the group, which is why a number from a friend's night out six months ago isn't a reliable guide to tonight's. Confirm the deposit, if one's required, and get the minimum and headcount in writing before the night, not at the door — a table booked for six that arrives as ten changes the arithmetic on the spot. Arrive close to the confirmed time; a table held past a venue's grace window can be released back to the queue outside.

Frequently asked

Does the table minimum include the cover charge?
Usually not. The minimum is a spend commitment on drinks ordered at the table, separate from any door or cover charge for the room itself. Confirm both figures when booking, since venues vary on whether a cover applies to table guests at all.
Can the group split the minimum across separate cards at the end?
Most rooms will split a table bill on request, but ask when booking rather than assuming. Some settle the whole table on one card and leave the group to divide it afterward.
What happens if the table doesn't reach the minimum?
The venue tops the bill up to the agreed minimum regardless of what was actually ordered. It's a floor, not a target, so a quiet table still pays the number it committed to.
