Seven Hong Kong bars made Asia's 50 Best Bars 2026 — here's what each room actually does
Bar Leone to Penicillin: the seven Hong Kong rooms on this year's list, read by concept and detail rather than by rank alone.
Fact-checked 11 October 2026

Fifteen Bridges Street is a narrow room in Central built around Italian-style cocktails and negronis — and a mortadella sandwich that has done as much for the bar's reputation as anything in a glass. That's Bar Leone, and in July it was named #3 on Asia's 50 Best Bars 2026, the highest ranking Hong Kong holds, a year after becoming the first Hong Kong bar named The World's Best Bar outright. Seven Hong Kong rooms made this year's main list. Read together, by what each one actually does, they're the current shape of the city's cocktail scene — not a matter of opinion, but a list with a ranking attached.
Bar Leone: the city's highest-ranked room, and still a neighbourhood bar
Bar Leone holds #3 in 2026, Hong Kong's best placing on the list. The room is small, the format is Italian aperitivo, and regulars go for the mortadella sandwich as readily as for a negroni.
GOKAN: five senses, on the site of the city's first ice house
Thirty Ice House Street sits on the ground once occupied by Hong Kong's first ice storage facility, and Shingo Gokan's menu is built around that name — sweet, sour, spicy, bitter and savoury, one cocktail per sense. The signature is a Watermelon Koffeezz, clarified watermelon juice cut with light-roast coffee. GOKAN climbed 11 places this year to #22.
Coa: close to 200 bottles of agave, and one cocktail that never left the menu
Jay Khan's basement room on Shin Hing Street holds what's described as the city's largest mezcal and tequila collection, close to 200 bottles. The Paloma de Oaxaca has stayed on the menu since Coa opened and is still the drink most associated with the room. Coa placed #24 in 2026 and took the Rémy Martin Legend of the List award, given to a bar that keeps performing year after year.
Mius: a Cantonese cocktail salon, and a highball served without ice
Twenty-nine Gough Street is Shelley Tai's Cantonese cocktail salon, paired with Cantonese small plates and built around drinks like an ice-free Kobe-style highball. Mius did not exist in the middle of 2025. It opened, and within a year it was at #36 on Asia's 50 Best — with Tai taking the Altos Bartenders' Bartender Award in the same cycle.
Argo: a new menu built with the city's own makers
Argo sits inside the Four Seasons Hotel on Finance Street, behind floor-to-ceiling windows over the harbour. In March 2026 it replaced its programme with Exploration, twelve drinks across two chapters — one built through collaborations with local names like Tai On Coffee & Tea and tattoo artist Marcus Yuen, the other built around seasonal, terroir-driven ingredients. Beverage manager Jonathan Gabbay has called it a menu written for the city rather than for a trend. Argo ranked #37.
Montana: a 1970s Miami room from the people behind Bar Leone
A hundred and eight Hollywood Road is where Lorenzo Antinori, who built Bar Leone, and Simone Caporale, from Sips and Boadas, opened a room styled on 1970s Miami and Havana — orange leather, dark green walls, a daiquiri served in a flower-shaped glass, and staff who greet the room with "ritmo." Montana did not exist in mid-2025 either. It debuted on Asia's 50 Best at #47 in its first eligible year.
Penicillin: the bar trying to run without a bin
Twenty-three Hollywood Road houses a laboratory-styled room built around a target most bars don't attempt — becoming Hong Kong's first closed-loop, "scrap-less" bar, fermenting and upcycling ingredients on site in a chamber staff call the Stinky Room. Its One Penicillin, One Tree partnership plants trees in Borneo against sales of a specific cocktail. Penicillin sits at #49.
Between them, the seven cover most of what a serious cocktail night in this city can look like: an Italian aperitivo counter, a Japanese five-senses menu, an agave temple, a Cantonese salon, a hotel programme rebuilt around local collaborators, a Miami-styled room from a first-time-list team, and a sustainability project that still pours a proper drink. Two of the seven — Mius and Montana — didn't exist a year ago. That's a scene adding rooms, not just defending old ones.
